The first pull of the season is always an interesting one. Over the season, HSTPA made a change to try to equalize the limits between different engine combination. The result was that we got to add 300 lbs. Didn't really know what kind of a difference that would make. The track looked pretty good, but it did last year and just didn't have much bite. This year, I did a good job a balancing the tractor and carried the front just where I wanted it, but I didn't do such a good job of sled placement. I watch the light super stocks and at about 125 feet it threw them left really hard. All of them lined up either on center or to the right. So, I thought I would try the left side of the track. In my opinion in watching the track get built, it looked the most consistent. I was wrong. I rode the brake hard most of the run and had too high of a gear to boot. Both Ed Stahl and Don Deane opted for the center of the track and both made very nice runs. Considering all I did wrong, I was pleased to have only been off the winning distance by 25'.

The good news it that everything held together and all the changes I made over the winter seemed to be positive. It will just take a few more runs to "relearn" the tractor and we will be off and running.
