New Motorcycle

My old Yamaha was up to 93,000 miles and with taking next year off from tractor pulling, I thought it was time for a new bike since I would probably be riding more next year and even going on some trips. So, I took advantage of the end of season deals and stepped up to a '99 BMW K1200LT. I have put about 600 miles on it since I got it and overall I am very impressed. I ride year round, so one of the most important things for me is wind protection. The BMW has a power windshield and when fully up blocks all of the wind, making it very pleasant to ride in cold weather. However, on the 100+ degree days, you can put the windshield down and open these air dams on the sides and get a nice stream of air to help keep you cool. It definitely rides different that my Yamaha. At slow speeds, the Yamaha was more stable and the Yamaha seems to have a lot more low-end torque, even though the BMW has 100hp, vs 86 on my 1300cc Yamaha. The BMW hands down out performs the Yamaha in the twisties, however. The addition of a passenger is more noticeable on the BMW due to a higher pillion seat. Stacey's missed the helmet to helmet intercom system we had on the Yamaha, but that is something to be added later. The other big plus on the BMW is, on two tanks of gas, I am getting 44 mpg CITY. Most BMW's seem to get over 50mpg on the highway, and with a big 6.3 gal tank, the bike has more range than my butt.
