New Toy
I haven't been feeling well, so I have been staying in the house playing with our new Home Theater PC that I built and we have become hooked on the Showtime show, Dexter. I built a PC from scratch to act as a HDTV tuner and Media Server for our Projector based 110" TV screen and 1100W 7.1 sound system. I started with an AMD mother board, added an 80Gb SATA drive for program storage, and a 500Gb USB drive for data storage. I picked up an OnAir GT ATSC/NTSC tuner to hook to an amplified outdoor antenna. That allows us to pickup free over-the-air HD channels, plus the old standby analog channels that will be with us for a little more than a year. I added a Turtle Beach micro USB sound card which takes S/PDIF output directly from the TV or DVD and sends it optically to our Surround Sound Amp. Lastly, I picked up a bluetooth keyboard and mouse off eBay to control the whole mess from across the room. Then next step is to build the PC and Amp into the wall, but that has to wait until I get the rear end of the tractor button up so I can use my woodworking equipment.
