Pre-Commit Candidates
Got my Pre-Commit contracts in the mail. Oddly enough, there were only 6 MOD's on the list, making it the only class where no applicant would be turned away. The 6 for this year include 4 retuning tractors from the 2007 season, Bob Jostock, Bruce Slaugh, Ken Veney, and myself. New are Ron Linder and Adam Bauer. I have known Ron for years. We pitted next to him at Wauseon years ago when I was still running a single engine mod with HSTPA. Ron is a tough competitor, but I have only known him with a triple, so it will be interesting to see what he does in the 4 motor class. Adam Bauer is the son of sled operator Vaughn Bauer (Ironman). I have never really had the opportunity to get to know the Bauer's, but there is probably no single person that sees more pulling than a sled operator. I see Adam is also on the pre-commit list for Mini's, so they continue to campaign multiple tractors in their camp.

There seems to be a natural ebb and flow between the MOD class and the UNL class. Although I am sure each driver has his own reason for choosing a class, it almost seems that the class with the fewest hooks gets the most competitors. And, that makes sense. I takes a lot to keep a multi-engine tractor running and a schedule that has you running all over the country and pulling back-to-back-to-back wears on the equipment and the crew.

Notable changes for this year are the two Bollinger tractors moved to the UNL class exclusively. Also, neither Snyder tractor is on either list. Other 2007 Mods that moved from MOD to UNL this year are Wayne Purser and Shawn Swearingen. And lastly, Bruce Slaugh will be joining Bob Jostock in running both MOD and UNL.

Of course all this will change and as I said in a previous entry, we won't really who is committed until June 14th at Wilmington.
